---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (We apologize for the blurry photos which are due to the website photographer being arbitrarily barred from a position next to the field with the La Mirada photographer by the Santa Monica High Athletic Director Norm Lacy) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CIF Southern Section Division III Semi-Final Round Four 2/26/08: Santa Monica 1 - La Mirada 1 On the 25th day of February in the year 2008, the valiant band of Sheba Warriors from Santa Monica High made their way down the mighty 5 Freeway, across the vastness of Los Angeles to engage in battle with the dragon team known as La Mirada. Under the watchful eyes of the three referees sent by the CIF, Santa Monica's Sheba Warriors performed the ceremonial greeting ritual..........
.......and then gathered in a group for their mysterious Sheba War chant.....................
....the battle commenced. For the following 120 minutes, in the heat of the La Mirada plain, the Lady Shebas fought with courage, determination and grit. There were many attacks, a stout defense. They battled despite the strong heat rising from the artificial turf, despite the piercing sun and a terrible thirst. Ten minutes before the end of the scheduled time, one of the strongest of the Sheba Warriors was carded off the field of battle by the red-shirted referees. And yet the Lady Shebas battled onwards, despite being short-handed, striking many times at the La Mirada goal, almost winning the coveted CIF treasure.......defending valiantly against the fleet-footed La Mirada champion Number 9's many attacks, until the sun finally passed below the horizon and the field of battle became dark and cool and the two groups of exhausted and brave-hearted women warriors finally ended their epic struggle in a draw.........................
